Our young family settled in 2019 in Leynes, on the borders of Beaujolais and Burgundy. We took over 4 hectares of forgotten vineyards, surrounded by dry stone walls and forests at an altitude of 450 meters. Our vines are all on slopes: Gamay on granitic soil for our Beaujolais-Leynes and Saint Amour appellation vines, Chardonnay on clay-limestone soil for our Bourgogne Blanc and Saint Véran. We cultivate and vinify in BIO.

Our story

Originally from the North of France, and not from winegrowing families, we lived for several years in Toulouse, where David learned the trade and passed the oenology diploma. After a year of wandering through the vineyards of France, we were lucky enough to find a place that matched our aspirations, on the border of Burgundy and Beaujolais. We are perched on top of a hill at an altitude of 450 meters with a breathtaking view of the Saône valley. The Clos is surrounded by chestnut forests, dry stone walls, natural springs and moors. We take advantage of this preserved place in the heart of nature and which lends itself perfectly to the conduct of an organic agriculture. This old estate has been in organic farming for 15 years but had been abandoned for a few years. We have restructured the vineyards around the house (by pulling up a large part) and we are replanting little by little with gamay and maybe tomorrow with other grape varieties. Meeting after meeting, we found a parcel of Saint Amour, then of white Burgundy and finally a small piece of Saint Véran (to be planted). A new page is being written at Le Clos Sauvage and we are very happy to be part of it.

Other little stories

Why the Clos Sauvage ? When we arrived, the old vines of the Clos were abandoned, in a wild state... Today, we are working hard to tame them on 4 hectares. At the same time, we are replanting little by little on small plots in order to express at best in our wines the specificities of our "climates". And our logo? Two plane trees in the middle of our courtyard are naturally united by a common branch. Our deep attachment to the place, the sincere meeting of a land and its wine growers, the unity of our family... What a symbol !
