In 1980 Bernard Burgaud oriented the family farm towards 100% wine production and created the Domaine Burgaud. He is part of a generation that embodies the rebirth of the Côte-Rôtie. A winegrower by passion, he does not wish to extend his estate beyond 5 hectares to remain always close to the vines and the wine. Located in the commune of Ampuis, the historical heart of Côte Rôtie, the estate is present on the place known as: Côte Blonde, fongeant, les moutonnes, leyat, la brosse and champin. Between tradition and progress, Bernard refuses the fashion for special vintages and other "parcels" and relies on the balance of the blend by keeping only one cuvée. In the 2000s, he began to focus on reducing inputs and conserving the agronomic potential of the soils. In 2020 his son Pierre took over the estate, pursuing his strategy and obtained the HVE (High Environmental Value) label.
The slopes of Côte-Rôtie are steep, and everyone rivals in ingenuity to work them. At the Burgaud estate we have invented a Tyrolean traverse to bring out the harvest. An amateur beekeeper, Pierre has reintroduced bees at the foot of the plots of land.
