Domaine Durieu

In 1976, Paul Durieu built his winery in the heart of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in a building dating from the XVIIth century. At the time, Paul had a few hectares of old vines in Plan de Dieu and Côtes du Rhône, inherited from his father, Henri Durieu; then old plots in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, some of which had been planted before the First World War, inherited from his mother, Lucile Avril. As a distinct winemaker, Paul began to plant his 5 hectares of Grenache, and to develop the Domaine Durieu. He developed his vineyards in the appellations of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Plan de Dieu, Ventoux and Côtes du Rhône, allowing the domaine to offer a complete and diversified range of wines. Since 2004, the brothers Vincent and François have taken up the torch, and lead the family domaine with passion and dedication. They have given a new dimension to the estate, which now has 37 hectares of vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, as well as parcels in the appellations Plan de Dieu, Ventoux and Côtes du Rhône.

Our story

The estate now owns 37 hectares of vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A large parcel is located on the plateau of Mont-Redon, in the north of the appellation. The old Grenache vines, planted in the pre-war period, are found in the localities of Cabrières and Le Pied de Baud. Complemented by Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Cinsaut, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Picpoul and Clairette, the variety and quality of the terroirs allow for the elaboration of typical wines, harvested at full maturity. The different cuvées reveal both elegance and complexity, reflecting the generosity and intrinsic characteristics of each terroir. The estate also owns a few parcels of vines in the Côtes du Rhône Village Plan de Dieu and Côtes du Rhône appellations, located in the Travaillan commune.In 1986, Paul acquired a 7-hectare parcel of Grenache and Syrah vines planted in the Ventoux in the village of Mormoiron. This clay soil is very interesting because it offers both freshness and generosity to his wine, characteristic of a parcel in altitude, exposed to the south slope.keeping in mind the preservation of the soil and the environment, the conduct of the vineyard is the subject of all care. The work is part of an approach to accompany the vine and wine in a reasoned manner, to promote the best expression of fruit and their terroir.
