Our story

Joseph Mellot is a historic family business with roots in Sancerre stretching back 5 centuries, beginning in 1513 with Pierre-Etienne Mellot, the first in a long line of winegrowers. At the end of the 17th century, César Mellot was an advisor to King Louis XIV. Since 2005, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has continued the work of her husband Alexandre and his forebears with passion and talent. Joseph Mellot is very attached to its fundamental values and remains independent. The company has long been committed to an environmental approach to sustainable, eco-responsible viticulture: working the soil, controlling yields, monitoring parcels, mechanical weeding... Laurent Goussard, the vineyard manager, and his team do their utmost to respect the land and the vines, and harvest grapes with great potential every autumn.With almost 100 hectares of vines, all of which are cultivated using sustainable agriculture and certified HVE, Haute Valeur Environnementale, Joseph Mellot cultivates vineyards in all 8 appellations of the Centre-Loire region: Sancerre, the historic birthplace of the winegrowing family, Pouilly-Fumé and Pouilly-sur-Loire, Menetou-Salon, Reuilly, Quincy, Chateaumeillant and Coteaux du Giennois. Among the vineyards we take great care of, Domaine des Emois is certified organic, and the same rigor reigns when it comes to winemaking: at the Joseph Mellot cellar, ISO14001 certified since 2009, everything is done to control the environmental impact of our activity as much as possible. Our oenologist Norbert Buchonnet and his team produce wines of the highest quality, regularly distinguished by awards and high tasting scores in the major guides. Together with her teams, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot strives to combine sustainable development with the highest standards of quality, day after day... Each and every one of our cuvées is the most beautiful signature of this commitment!
