Domaine Semper

Clos Florent 2023

Maury | Red | 2023

This wine comes from a unique terroir showcasing black schist and clay-limestone soils. The blend of Grenache Noir, Carignan, and Syrah is carefully crafted from hand-harvested grapes and meticulous tasting of the berries. Traditional vinification in tanks with extended maceration and lees stirring ensures a wine rich in flavor, while aging for 12 months in demi-muids (600-liter barrels) imparts structure and depth.

Our opinion on the vintage

At first glance, the deep garnet robe catches the eye with its brick-red highlights. Bringing the glass to the nose reveals subtle aromas of ripe black cherry, bay leaf, and cocoa. On the palate, it's a veritable explosion of flavors with a round and fleshy texture. The wine envelops the palate with its velvety texture, offering a sweet blend of sun-drenched fruit and delicate spices. The finish is marked by well-ripened tannins, a perfect balance between the bitterness and sweetness of the black cherry coulis and cocoa, which lingers pleasantly.

Domaine Semper

Roussillon | France

At the foot of the Agly's schist hills, Domaine Semper crafts wines where Carignan and Grenache find fertile ground for expression. The Roussillon heat translates into dark, ripe fruit, while the freshness of the higher-altitude soils provides a welcome counterpoint. Gentle winemaking prioritizes precision over power, resulting in wines with fine tannins and a fleshy texture. Limited oak aging preserves a clean aromatic profile and just the right amount of body. The style remains straightforward and direct, with a restrained depth that characterizes this corner of the south, where old vines continue to play a vital role.
