Domaine Julien Pilon
Originally from the Rhône Valley, Julien Pilon is a passionate winemaker who built his estate around a quest for purity, finesse, and authentic expression of the northern terroirs. After formative experiences with major houses and winemakers, from the Rhône Valley to Languedoc and then Spain, he launched his personal project in 2010, vinifying his first vintage in his parents' garage before gradually setting up his own winery in Chavanay, at the heart of the region.
The estate works with a wide variety of prestigious Northern Rhône appellations, both white and red, ranging from Condrieu, Saint-Péray, Saint-Joseph, and Hermitage for the whites, to Saint-Joseph, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas for the reds.
Julien's philosophy is based on respect for natural balance and delicate winemaking. Harvesting is mostly manual, fermentations are precisely supervised, and aging, often in barrels or demi-muids, is designed to support the wine without masking the expression of the fruit and terroir.
His white wines, made from emblematic grape varieties such as Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne, are distinguished by vibrant tension, great aromatic finesse, and remarkable purity. They combine freshness, minerality, and body, revealing the unique character of the region's granite and clay-limestone soils.
The reds, mainly from Syrah, combine elegance, aromatic depth, and balanced structure. Each appellation is approached with particular care, allowing local expressions (spices, black fruits, peppery or floral notes) to flourish naturally.
Julien Pilon's range also extends to original and poetic cuvées, which tell stories of places, memories, and personal inspirations, all while reflecting a coherent and demanding approach.
