Champagne Olivier Marteaux
In the Marne Valley, Olivier Marteaux crafts champagnes that defy standardized profiles. Here, the work is conducted on a human scale, with constant attention paid to the balance and personality of the wines. The desired style prioritizes the expression of the grape and terroir over mere effect or ostentation.
The vocation of winemaker became apparent to him very early on. Olivier grew up in the vineyards, accompanying his parents and grandparents, then trained at the Avize viticultural high school before gaining extensive experience across various estates. This trajectory now informs a thoughtful approach, rooted in tradition and keen observation.
The estate’s history began in the 1950s, when his grandfather started a vineyard nursery, grafting his own vines before planting the family’s first plots. His father continued the venture, gradually expanding the vineyard across several villages in the Marne Valley. Olivier took over in the 2000s, determined to develop the estate without straying from its roots.
The vineyard is managed according to sustainable viticulture principles, guided by a simple idea: the land is protected because it is passed down from generation to generation. This philosophy is reflected in unique, refined champagnes that seek not so much to charm immediately as to tell a coherent story. These are authentic cuvées, crafted for those who enjoy venturing off the beaten path.
