How do you make red wine?

To make red wine, you need red grapes . Unlike white wine, it's the skins that give it its color and tannins . The key process is maceration , which is the time the juice remains in contact with the skins. The longer the maceration, the darker, more tannic, and more structured the wine will be.

• Light reds : short maceration, soft tannins, perfect for drinking young.

• Full-bodied reds : long maceration and sometimes barrel aging, for complex and powerful wines, capable of aging.

Grape varieties and their influence

Each grape variety produces a different style:
