Domaine Jean Foillard

Beaujolais | France

Located in Villié-Morgon, at the heart of one of Beaujolais' most iconic crus, Domaine Jean Foillard is now an absolute benchmark for connoisseurs of great terroir-driven Gamays. A key figure in the Beaujolais revival, Jean Foillard very early on opted for viticulture that respects living organisms and natural winemaking, following in the footsteps of the pioneers who restored the region's prestige.

The vines, often more than 50 years old, have their roots in the granite soils typical of Morgon, giving the wines depth, structure, and a unique mineral character. Here, there are no artificial interventions: hand-harvesting, native yeasts, little or no sulfur, and long, gentle macerations to extract the fruit without harshness. Everything is designed to preserve the purity of the grape and the truest expression of the terroir.

Jean Foillard’s wines are distinguished by their aromatic vibrancy and refined texture. Crisp red fruits, black cherry, peony, notes of sweet spices, and occasionally a hint of forest floor combine to create bouquets of great elegance. On the palate, there is a remarkable balance between richness and depth: a juicy body, carried by vibrant freshness and silky tannins, with a length that is always surprising for wines made from Gamay.

Capable of delivering both immediate enjoyment and superb aging potential, the estate’s wines offer a noble and authentic interpretation of Beaujolais, far removed from the clichés of simple, light wines. These are wines that stir the emotions—precise and lively—combining drinkability with great complexity.
