Domaine Morel

Jura | France

The estate is located in Poligny (39800, Jura), within one of Jura's historic wine-growing regions. It is a family estate that Valentin Morel took over in 2014, following legal studies and an initial professional career outside the wine industry. Under his guidance, the estate was rebranded Les Pieds sur Terre, a name that reflects his philosophy of natural viticulture and respect for the terroir. The vines had been organically farmed by his father Jean-Luc since 1999 and subsequently transitioned to more assertive biodynamic practices under Valentin's stewardship.

The estate covers approximately 6 to 7.5 hectares of vineyards planted on marl and limestone soils around Poligny, within the Côtes du Jura AOC. The grape varieties grown are typical of the Jura region: Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir; Valentin is also experimenting with hybrid varieties to adapt to climate change. The winemaking approach emphasizes soil health, using copper and sulfur treatments supplemented by plant-based preparations, and avoiding the use of oenological additives in the cellar. Harvesting is done by hand, and fermentation proceeds as naturally as possible, using indigenous yeasts and minimal sulfur.

The estate produces a diverse range of wines: whites, reds, macerated wines, and sparkling wines, as well as unique cuvées such as straw wine or wines made using unconventional methods (for example, Poulsard vinified as a white wine). The estate’s philosophy is to produce natural wines that fully express their terroir and the winemaker’s spirit. The first vintages under the name “Les Pieds sur Terre” date back to 2014.
