Domaine Morel
The estate is located in Poligny (39800, Jura), in one of the Jura's historic wine-growing regions. It is a family estate that Valentin Morel took over in 2014, after studying law and pursuing an initial career outside the wine industry. Under his guidance, the estate was renamed Les Pieds sur Terre (Feet on the Ground), a name that reflects his philosophy of natural viticulture that respects the terroir. The vines had already been cultivated organically by his father, Jean-Luc, since 1999 and have since evolved towards more pronounced biodynamic practices under Valentin.
The estate covers approximately 6 to 7.5 hectares of vines planted on marl and limestone soils around Poligny, in the Côtes du Jura AOC. The grape varieties cultivated are typical of the Jura region: Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir; Valentin is also experimenting with hybrid varieties to adapt to climate change. Viticulture emphasizes soil health, copper and sulfur treatments supplemented by plant preparations, and the absence of oenological additives in the cellar. The harvest is done by hand, and fermentations are carried out as naturally as possible, using indigenous yeasts and reduced sulfur.
The estate produces a diverse range of wines: white, red, macerated, and sparkling, as well as unique cuvées such as straw wine or wines made using atypical methods (for example, Poulsard vinified like a white wine). The estate's philosophy is to produce natural wines that fully express their terroir and the winemaker's mindset. The first wines produced under the name "Les Pieds sur Terre" date back to 2014.
