Border Domain
When Jeremy Thien decided in 2012 to settle in his vineyards on the border of Beaujolais and Mâconnais, it was to wear three hats: producer, winemaker, and wine merchant. He decided to embrace these three roles as a craftsman, fulfilling what he would call "the turning point of his life"... Anecdotes from the estate: The very definition of a winemaker is to practice three equally fascinating professions: cultivating the vines, making the wine, and finally, marketing it. Each time, it's a new experience, filled with human encounters. Wine is not a product like any other. As soon as we drink wine, we have a piece of civilization in our glass. If you're looking for a wine that reflects me, then try my Juliénas Cuvée Réserve. A defining moment in my life as a winemaker would be the emotion I felt when my first bottle of Juliénas came off the bottling line. The Story of the Estate: When Jeremy Thien decided in 2012 to settle on the hillsides bordering Beaujolais and Mâconnais, he took on three roles: producer, winemaker, and wine merchant. He chose to embrace these three roles as a craftsman, making what he calls "the turning point of his life." Nestled on hillsides at the edge of Beaujolais and Mâconnais, our old vines produce fine and authentic terroir wines. The harvest is entirely done by hand. In our cellar, we vinify and age our wines like artisans. I particularly love two plots: one in Juliénas, in the lieu-dit Vayolette. North-facing and late-ripening, it yields a wine of great finesse. The other, in Beaujolais-Villages, Pré des Bois, overlooks the village of Jullié and has a very distinctive character. Domaine des Frontières was born in late 2012. A wine and Beaujolais terroir enthusiast, Jérémy Thien transformed a long-held dream into reality after an unconventional career change. After a career in Paris, he chose to return to his native Beaujolais to become a winemaker. He went back to school (CRFPPA Davayé) and then, in late 2012, embarked on a few hectares of Juliénas and Beaujolais-Villages vineyards. With the first harvest and the first bottles, his hard work paid off, and the magic happened: the dream became a reality. The pride of the estate: It was in 2012, after a career change, that Jérémy Thien created Domaine des Frontières. Nestled on hillsides at the border of Beaujolais and Mâconnais, their old vines produce fine and authentic terroir-driven wines. Jérémy is passionate about wine and deeply in love with his Beaujolais terroir, his birthplace. He fulfills his dream by becoming a winemaker, which allows him to practice three professions: producer, winegrower and wine merchant.
