Gitton Father and Son
The Gitton Père et Fils estate is located around the village of Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre, on the banks of the Canal Latéral à la Loire. The vineyards, covering 33 hectares, are planted with 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Pinot Noir, on small plots around the village. These numerous plots allow us to offer a dozen different Sancerre Blanc wines. Anecdotes from the estate: Our "En Creux" and "Larrey" plots, both on the same hillside and with the same terroir, were already mentioned by Abbé Poupard in 1777 as two of the four best Sancerre Blanc wines in the history of Sancerre. A little history of the estate: The history of the Gitton vineyards dates back to 1945 when Marcel and Huguette Gitton bought half a hectare of vines in the Sancerre region to supply their family bistro. Little by little, Marcel, a vineyard worker with a passion for vines, expanded his vineyard by acquiring small plots around his village. Drawing on this diversity of terroirs, Marcel quickly opted for plot-by-plot vinification, separating each cuvée by specific vineyard site, according to exposure, rootstock, and terroir. This family tradition is now carried on by his son Pascal and his wife Denise, assisted by their daughter Chanel.
