The Dads 2023

Pays d'Oc | Red | 2023

A blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah from prestigious terroirs such as Minervois and La Clape, Les Darons de Jeff Carrel is crafted with meticulous care. The grapes are harvested both by hand and mechanically, followed by precise vinification with punch-downs to best extract the aromas. This carefully orchestrated aging in tanks results in an intense garnet color and a silky texture, making it a charismatic and approachable wine.

Our opinion on the vintage

Jeff Carrel's Les Darons captivates at first glance with its deep, translucent garnet color. The nose is a riot of dark fruits like blackberry, black cherry, and raspberry, enhanced by subtle spices such as pepper and bay leaf. On the palate, the wine envelops the palate with a round and velvety texture. The aromatic richness of the nose reappears, but the raspberry and white pepper are more pronounced, offering a complex tasting experience. The finish, concentrated and delicately chalky, lingers long with notes of stewed fruit and spice.

Languedoc | France

Jeff Carrel's work in the Languedoc region focuses on vineyards that are sometimes neglected or challenging, revitalized through a pragmatic approach to winemaking. Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah are cultivated according to the specific plots, resulting in wines that are sometimes juicy, sometimes more structured.

The winemaking process remains intentionally simple, in order to preserve the rhythm and character of the wines. Some cuvées prioritize immediate enjoyment, while others emphasize a more assertive structure. The entire range is distinguished by a direct, accessible style, clearly expressing the Languedoc landscape.
