Domaine Carrel & Senger

Savoie | France

Located in the town of Jongieux, in Savoie, Domaine Carrel & Senger is part of a long winemaking tradition in the region, with records dating back to the 16th century. The estate is situated on the left bank of the Rhône, between the river and Lake Bourget, on the limestone-marl foothills of Mont du Chat.

The vineyard covers approximately 33 hectares, mostly planted on steep slopes, particularly in the Marestel Cru, the historic terroir of the Altesse grape variety, which produces the most structured Roussettes de Savoie. These steep slopes, which are difficult to work, offer in return optimal exposure and gradual ripening, promoting precise and balanced expressions.

The Carrel family has been involved in winemaking in Jongieux since 1830, representing six generations of winemakers today. The estate has played a pioneering role in the region, particularly since the 1970s with the development of full-time winemaking and the production of sparkling wines with carefully crafted blends. This quest for harmony between grape variety, soil, and climate remains at the heart of their current approach.

The estate’s wines emphasize the distinct character of the terroir and Savoyard grape varieties, with a particular focus on the Altesse grape, which is carefully cultivated to bring out its finesse, structure, and aging potential. The work of Domaine Carrel & Senger as a whole offers a rigorous and consistent interpretation of the Jongieux terroirs, rooted in Alpine tradition and attentive to the expression of the landscape and soils.
