Cauhapé Estate

Jura

Founded in 1976 in the heart of Jurançon, Domaine Cauhapé now covers 45 hectares of southeast-facing slopes between the Pyrenees and the Atlantic Ocean. A self-taught winemaker, Henri Ramonteu has built the estate vintage after vintage, prioritizing listening to nature and seeking perfect ripeness. The vineyard rests on soils blending clay, silica, and pebbles, perfectly suited to the appellation's emblematic grape varieties. Gros Manseng is primarily used for dry wines, renowned for their freshness and aromatic richness, while Petit Manseng is harvested in successive passes for the production of great sweet wines. For the past ten years, the estate has been planting and reviving forgotten grape varieties such as Courbu, Camaralet, and Lauzet to expand its range of dry wines. The history of Jurançon has been built on sweet wines, and the new challenge is to use these grape varieties with great potential to create exceptional wines and bring the appellation's dry whites to the forefront. When asked about his best memories, two immediately stand out: the 1988 Vinexpo Sweet Wine Olympics, where, out of 70 competitors from 11 countries, a Cauhapé wine, just six months old, took 5th place! And also the era of the renowned chef Alain Senderens; Lucas Carton, one of Paris's finest restaurants, ordered 600 bottles of Jurançon de Cauhapé annually!
