Domaine d’en Ségur was founded in 1989 by Pierre Fabre, a pharmacist and founder of the laboratories bearing his name, who was passionate about botany and the products of the earth. Deeply attached to this family estate, he placed quality at the heart of the project from the very beginning and chose to oversee the winemaking process from harvest through to bottling. Lionel, a trained oenologist, joined the estate as vineyard manager to complement this work, before also taking over winemaking, giving him a comprehensive view of the vineyard and the wine. The estate now spans 38 hectares and features seven grape varieties selected for their qualities and their perfect adaptation to the terroirs. The sandy-clay plots produce very fruity wines, while the gravel soils with rounded pebbles provide concentration and structure. The proximity of the Agout River creates a microclimate conducive to optimal grape ripening, with cool nights in the fall. The vineyard is managed with a focus on self-sufficiency, without the use of fertilizers, by promoting ground cover and biodiversity. The transition to organic farming began in the summer of 2020.
