Les Eaux de Roche n°1 "The spring flow" 2018
Alsace | White | 2018
The Riesling from Châtenois stands out for its environmentally conscious approach, cultivated using organic methods. Hand-harvesting allows for meticulous selection of the grapes, followed by direct pressing and cold settling on the lees. The process is carried out without the addition of sulfur, preserving remarkable purity and freshness. Aging on the lees enhances the aromatic complexity, with a final clarification in the bottle that preserves the wine's natural vibrancy.

Our opinion on the vintage
From the first sniff, this Riesling reveals a seductive bouquet of citrus, pineapple, and lemongrass terpenes, typical of its varietal. The palate, structured and elegant, displays a subtle acidity supported by a delicate effervescence reminiscent of Moselle wines. Overflowing with flavors of exotic fruits and citrus, it evolves harmoniously towards a finish more reminiscent of Chenin Blanc, with increasing acidity, a touch of astringency, and a lemony bitterness. The finish is marked by chalky and saline notes, offering a tasting experience that is both complex and refreshing.

Jeff Carrel's work in the Languedoc region focuses on vineyards that are sometimes neglected or challenging, revitalized through a pragmatic approach to winemaking. Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah are cultivated according to the specific plots, resulting in wines that are sometimes juicy, sometimes more structured.
The winemaking process remains intentionally simple, in order to preserve the rhythm and character of the wines. Some cuvées prioritize immediate enjoyment, while others emphasize a more assertive structure. The entire range is distinguished by a direct, accessible style, clearly expressing the Languedoc landscape.
