The Collioure appellation is a 330-hectare vineyard covering several surrounding communes, including the town of Collioure. It is said to have been created by the Phoenicians during the 6th century BC.
The appellation is known to produce the 3 colours of wine. To obtain red wine, the farmers use black grenache, black mourvèdre and black syrah. These grape varieties can be combined with Carignan N and Cinsault N.
Tasting the white wines produced near Collioure is a surprise thanks to the white or grey Grenache. These can also be blended with marsanne B, macabeu B, roussanne B, vermentino B and tourbat B. To obtain rosés, the winemakers use the same grape varieties as for red wines and add Grenache gris.
