Located in the heart of the Rhone Valley and a few kilometers from the famous City of the Popes in Avignon, Château Gigognan spreads its vines over 110 hectares in a panorama punctuated by hills, umbrella pines and olive trees. Born from a wine-growing tradition dating back to Roman times, our property is both a land of vines shaped by a terroir of rolled pebbles and a place of tranquility.
Anecdotes about the domain
Jean-François Hénin wished to call upon Stéphane Derenoncourt's advice for his authentic approach and his fidelity to the terroir so exceptional in this land of Châteauneuf du Pape for both the reds and the whites. Our 40 ha of Côtes du Rhône offer wines that also provoke great sensations of terroir and freshness, I recommend in particular this special Cuvée from a small parcel "le bois des Moines" where the Mouverdre and Grenache express all the strength and elegance of this terroir.
The domain's short story
Château Gigognan was built on the foundations of a Roman temple which was a priory in the 16th century, the date on which we found the first archives of the vineyard. After having passed through the hands of several owners, it was recently acquired by the Hénin family who undertook major renovation work, the construction of a new cellar, the reconstruction of the vineyard which will be totally organic from the 2018 harvest. This approach is accompanied by the advice of the famous consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt.
