Anecdotes about the domain
Last summer, we were lucky enough to have our hour in the TF1 news at 1pm. Presented by Jacques Legros, superb images show the estate with a precise presentation of our guest rooms.
The domain's short story
1952: two hundred years after its construction by the Marquis de Viella, the château still dominates its vineyards, but it's been a long time since the shutters concealed life behind the high windows. My family acquires it and the surrounding vineyards. 1991: I take over from my father, building up my own definition of wine and restoring the Château to its former glory, stone by stone. 2017: My daughters, Claire and Marion, have grown up with the Château as a banner above their heads. They return to my side to become the 4th generation of winemakers at Château de Viella. From now on, we'll be working together to define our wines, drawing on our experience, our knowledge of our plots and our understanding of our grape varieties.
The winemaker's pride
Since the middle of the 20th century, the Bortolussi family has owned this 25-hectare vineyard, classified as AOP Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic Bilh. It produces wines that are both concentrated and fine, with a wonderful mouthfeel and total respect for the fruit. Knowing one's terroir, listening to the vines, not resigning oneself to following practices without questioning ... this long-standing commitment for the Bortolussi family was rewarded in 2018 by obtaining High Environmental Value certification.
