Château Salettes is above all an exceptional location: a micro-climate favourable to viticulture, a magnificent terroir and vines planted on terraces... In 1965, Jean Pierre Boyer chose to reflect the history of a 17th century wine estate. It is a long-term task that is still ongoing and worth the effort. The result: wines produced with an ancestral know-how in the greatest respect of this so precious soil made of clay, limestone and crushed rock...
The history of the estate begins in 1604, when 18 generations of farmers succeeded each other! It is not known whether "Salettes" comes from the name of the salt storage place or from a Gallic tribe... What is certain is that the passion for wine and the secrets of winemaking have been passed on over the years. It is this know-how that Jean-Pierre Boyer wanted to magnify by taking over the estate in 1965: he restores the abandoned restanques and plants new vines. It is his son - Nicolas Boyer - who will take over the estate in 2002 and who continues the work initiated by Jean Pierre. Nicolas disappeared in 2011 following a serious illness. With the support of Jean-Pierre, I took over the management of the estate. Even today, some plots still need to be replanted.
With an initial training as an oenological engineer, wine has always been a matter of course. By taking over the reins of the château, I wanted to add my stone to the building and sublimate this wonderful grape variety that is Bandol located between the sea and the mountains, which is the identity of the estate....
We practice an environmentally friendly agriculture: our harvests are carried out by hand and the soil is regularly tilled between rows and on the row. We work with sheep manure compost, without insecticides or herbicides. Moreover, we practice uncertified organic farming and biodynamics.
