The domain's short story
Known as one of the oldest wine estates in the canton of Pauillac, Verdignan is first and foremost noted for the beautiful architecture of its château. The estate remained in the same family from the end of the 18th century until 1934, which shows that the former owners liked to stay in this place steeped in history with a breathtaking view.On the stone lintel of the oldest door of the vat house of Verdignan appears a date: 1720.The abbeys have held for many years the know-how of wine making. It is therefore not surprising that the vat house of Verdignan was built a few hundred meters from the old abbey of Cadourne, a well-known stop for the pilgrims of Compostela who crossed the estuary arriving at the port of the village called La Maréchale. This port was also a frequent place for loading barges to bring barrels of wine to Bordeaux. From the cultivation of the vine to the maturing of the wine, through the seasons, we work in the respect of the tradition and the environment without refusing the modernism (Certified Agriculture Respectful of the Environment in Aquitaine of level 2 (AREA) and High Environmental Value (HVE) of level 3). Our objective is to optimize the quality of our grapes in order to harvest a very healthy harvest at maturity. At Chateau Verdignan, we have become specialists in this field; the storage of wines for late release allows our clients to enjoy this superb evolution of aromas.
