The domain's short story
The estate is based on the Vin de Pays d'Oc appellation and the vines are planted facing due south, which gives them an intense amount of sunshine. In addition, the warm wind that blows in this region provides the vines with security against diseases. The terroir is composed of clay and limestone on the plateau and sandier soil on the terraces of the "Argent Double", the river that runs along the south side of the vineyard. Since the middle of the 19th century the François family has been producing spirits and since his great-grandfather also wines in the Bordeaux region. So from a very young age, François' past was shaped by the weight of history, but he chose to make the word "Exigence" his only "master word". Thus for him there is no room for chance and nature can only express itself fully if we know how to give it the means to do so. François' work is a balanced mix of innovative techniques, sharp know-how, a pint of audacity, a lot of rigour and sensitivity and finally a strong commitment to organic farming.
The winemaker's pride
Domaine des Salices is located between the Montagne Noire and the Mediterranean Sea, in the lands of the Minervois. It is on this property, rich in two historic buildings; an authentic stone cellar and the magnificent 11th century Romanesque chapel of Saint-Etienne, that François Lurton, the fourth generation of the family to produce wine in the Bordeaux region, has chosen to settle.
