Anecdotes about the domain
Why "Grain d'Orient"? The first and simplest reason is that we are located in the Eastern Pyrenees! Beyond that, the original idea for the creation of the estate was built around the establishment of Chardonnay in the department, a grape variety native to eastern France... a grain from the French East!
The domain's short story
After having worked for several years in various French vineyards, in 2012 the project was born to take over a domain for us, in order to practice our viticulture and create wines in our image. We have chosen to settle in the heart of Roussillon for the great diversity of the terroirs it offers, allowing any winegrower to produce wines of character. Wishing to practice a simple, organic viticulture, respectful of the Environment and People, based on observation and the search for authenticity and pleasure, we have chosen Fennellèdes as a land of expression.
The winemaker's pride
Domaine Grain d'Orient is located on the borders of the Boulzane valley, in Caudiès de Fenouillèdes, a small village with a surprising range of terroirs: alluvial soils, schistose marls, clayey-calcareous slopes, varied exposure. To enjoy the cool climate, our predecessor had chosen to grow Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. We are part of this vision of vine growing. In our high-altitude vineyard, between 350m and 390m, the berries never suffer from drought, ripen slowly and thus deliver all the potential of the region's atypical grape varieties for the production of wines that are both delicious and full of freshness.
