The Jas des Papes estate covers 9 hectares to the east of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, mainly located in the Saumades region. The vineyard is made up of plots of varied soils, sands and rolled pebbles. Deeply rooted old vines of Cinsault, Grenaches, Syrah and Clairette give full meaning to the identity of the terroir. With 95% red and 5% white grapes, our vineyard corresponds to the average of the appellation's grape varieties. We work in an environmentally friendly way, with certification in organic farming since 2017, and only in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
It was Provence that called us to the Rhone Valley. Michel Audibert, and his ancestors before him, have worked for a century in Provence for the tradition of red wines of terroir and character. This tradition naturally attracted Michel, the 5th generation of winegrowers, to the renowned wines of Châteauneuf. He acquired the estate in 2014 and for the past 2 years, it is Sébastien Philibert and JP Meuwesen who work at the Jas des Papes. "This heritage and its vision inspire and guide us to honour the past and build the future."
"I am still amazed by the complexity of the work required at Châteauneuf. On the same plot, up to 2 or 3 different types of soil can be found. During the harvest, it's a bit of a headache! Each plot selection being isolated and vinified separately, we must be vigilant at all times. My objective is to optimize as much as possible what the vine brings us, because for me, 85% of the wine is made in the vineyard."
