Anecdotes about the domain

"I am still amazed by the complexity of the work required in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. On the same plot, we can find up to 2 or 3 different types of soil. During the harvest, it's a bit of a headache! As each plot is isolated and vinified separately, we have to be vigilant at all times. My goal is to optimize as much as possible what the vineyard brings us, because for me, 85% of the wine is made in the vineyard."

The domain's short story

It was Provence that called us to the Rhone Valley. Michel Audibert, and his forefathers before him, have worked for a century in Provence for the tradition of red wines of terroir and character. This tradition naturally drew Michel, a 5th generation winemaker, to the renowned wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. He acquired the estate in 2014 and since then it is the duo Sébastien Philibert and JP Meuwesen who work at Jas des Papes to make the wines. "This heritage and its vision inspire and guide us to honor the past and build the future."

The winemaker's pride

The Jas des Papes estate covers 9 hectares in the east of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, mainly grouped together in the Saummades area. The vineyard is made up of parcels of varied soils, sand and pebbles. Our old vines of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah and Clairette are deeply rooted and reflect the identity of their terroir and produce wines with a marked typicity. With 95% red grapes and 5% white grapes, our vineyard corresponds to the traditional grape varieties of the appellation. We work in the respect of the environment, with a certification in organic farming since 2017, and only in Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
