The great variety of Alsatian soils allows the appellation to offer a wide range of wines with more than 90% white wines! When a grape variety is indicated on the label of an Alsatian wine, it is the only one that makes it up. Without mention of grape variety, it can be a blend. AOC Alsace can be divided into seven grape varieties! (muscat, sylvaner, white pinot, pinot gris, pinot noir, riesling and gewurztraminer).
The Alsatian winegrowers obtained the appellation in 1962, the latter is very meticulous: a control of the wines is organised at the level of the vines, the cellars, but also at the tasting.
The variety of grape varieties produces white wines with a clear, fresh and dry colour. But Alsace is especially famous for its sweet and powerful wines, with an intense and golden colour. The only red wine is full-bodied and robust, thanks to its only grape variety, Pinot Noir.
