In the villages of Lalande and Néac (the second village in which the AOC is located) the soils are mainly Graves.
The closer you get to Neac, the more the vines are planted in high plateaus.
The grape varieties used are Merlot for the roundness and Cabernet Sauvignon for the velvety taste. These are the varieties also used in the production of the Pomerol wine.
Like its predecessors, its colour is rather dark, taking on ruby and garnet hues. On the nose, we notice a rich and often powerful bouquet. At first you will notice the small red fruits, then the aromas of vanilla or spices but also candied fruits. For the best years, we can add cocoa and game notes to this list. On the palate, the tannins are very powerful on the attack, but then they become velvety. These wines go very well with red meats, especially small game, but also with powerful cheeses such as maroilles.
Their ageing potential is 5 to 10 years.
