It is at the expense of olive oil that we enjoy the best of the Rhone Valley! The wines of Gigondas come from vines that have colonized ancient olive groves at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Propitious for vine growing thanks to the Mediterranean climate and the breath of the Mistral, expect wines with great ageing potential and a very present tannic character!
Like the surrounding vineyards, the plots of the southern Côtes-du-Rhône have several grape varieties: grenache noir, syrah and mourvèdre. It can be completed by the cinsault to add a little finesse. The soil of the terroir is mainly composed of clay. The area is about 1200 hectares. Red and rosé wines are produced there, and the colour of the red is very dark from the youth, to acquire orange reflections with the years, which sublimate the wine. The grapes, harvested two weeks after the other appellations of the region to make up for the lack of heat in the shade of the Dentelles, have aromas of spices and black olives. The nose of the red wines is to the honor of the red fruits, with scents of liquorice and candied fruits. The rose wine evokes an aromatic aroma of cooked fruits and roasted almonds. In the mouth, the red wine is structured and structured, and a few years of waiting are necessary to fully enjoy it.
