CALAVON CASTLE
CALAVON CASTLE
In the heart of the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation, Château de Calavon is located in the commune of Lambesc. The estate has belonged to the same family for five generations and is part of a winemaking history dating back to the 19th century, making it one of the oldest estates in the area.
The vineyard benefits from a favorable geographical location between Marseille and Arles, characterized by a Mediterranean climate tempered by the mistral wind. The soils, particularly well-suited to the production of red wines, combine fine sands, structuring clays, and a measured proportion of limestone pebbles, giving the wines both finesse and structure.
Between 1998 and 2017, significant work was carried out in both the vineyard and the winery to modernize the facilities and refine winemaking practices, with the aim of enhancing the precision and consistency of the wines. These developments were consistent with the family tradition, preserving the unique character of the estate.
Today, Château de Calavon offers wines built on balance and the clarity of the terroir, with particular attention paid to the structure of the reds. The estate's entire approach aims to accurately express the characteristics of the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, in a coherent manner that remains true to its winemaking heritage.
