Everything You Need to Know About Bordeaux
The Bordeaux regional appellation is produced throughout the Bordeaux wine region. The region covers 42,600 hectares and produces 2,236,700 hectoliters of wine annually. Bordeaux red wines are primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Cabernet Franc may also be part of the blend, adding roundness and spicy notes. In some blends, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Carmenère are used as secondary grape varieties. Bordeaux is the world’s best-selling regional appellation! These wines are best enjoyed young. However, in recent years, some winemakers have been offering structured wines aged in oak barrels. Visually, Bordeaux wine is, as its name suggests, burgundy in color! The blend of grape varieties results in a fairly varied bouquet, ranging from blackcurrant to violet. On the palate, Bordeaux wines are supple with pleasant tannins.
