Château Camplazens cultivates its vines on a particular terroir: the valleys and slopes on which the vines are located are surrounded by limestone cliffs, pine forests and wild moors. A real ecosystem is created where thyme, rosemary, lavender, juniper and other wild flowers grow. This combination is at the origin of the richly perfumed aromas found in the wines.
The estate has 48 hectares of vines. They are pruned for low yields, from 30 to 40 hectolitres per hectare. The time spent on the vine is maximized to reach full physiological maturity of the grapes.
The cellar has a capacity of 200 barrels. All the barrels are bought new and renewed every three wines. The blend of French and American oak from several cooperages is carefully chosen to create effects that match the characteristics and shape of our wines.
The Close family's mission is to develop the potential of Camplazens to make the flavours and aromas of this very special microclimate express themselves as best as possible.
Camplazens is located on the site of a Roman colony on the top of a limestone massif known as the Clape. The environment has been protected since 1965, the only activity authorised is the cultivation of vines and the vinification of grapes.
The climatic conditions are ideal with more than 3000 hours of sunshine per year, at the highest point in any part of the northern Mediterranean!
The parcels of old Carignan, planted in 1953, are pruned in Gobelet to be able to pick by hand.
