Château des Bachelards was created by the Benedictine monks of Cluny around 1100, making it the southernmost monastic vineyard in Burgundy. The Château des Bachelards vineyard covers 12 hectares.
Anecdotes about the domain
In the hands of Alexandra De Vazeilles between 2014 and 2022, the Château des Bachelards vineyard proved the greatness of Beaujolais terroirs. She has since passed the baton to Matthieu Gufflet, who is passionate about gastronomy and wine, and who relies on the young team in place to continue the meticulous work begun by Alexandra. Now part of the Terres de Natures label, the Château's future lies in the values of sharing and transmission, with the development of reception and hospitality activities at Château des Bachelards.

The domain's short story
Château des Bachelards is the soul of Fleurie. It owes its existence to the Benedictine monks of the Cluny Abbey who built it in the 11th century. It is the southernmost monastic estate in Burgundy. Bachelards in langue d'oil means 'place of God'. The abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but the farm and other buildings remained. Today, they form the Château des Bachelards.
The winemaker's pride
Château des Bachelards has been growing organic and biodynamic vines since 2007. It is the only estate to be doubly certified organic and biodynamic, with the Demeter label for its appellations. Chateau des Bachelards is a pioneer in the region. The vineyard was created by Benedictine monks in the 11th century. The vines cover 12 hectares, including 6 hectares in the Fleurie appellation. The other parcels are in Moulin-à-Vent and Saint-Amour. We also produce a white Burgundy wine from the Chardonnay grape in the Beaujolais appellation. Our wines have been awarded top marks by French and international critics. Oenotourism activities are also recognized for their high quality: Chateau des Bachelards won the prize organized by Terre de Vins magazine and is among the 100 best estates in France in this field. In 2017, Château des Bachelards won the "Fermes d'Avenir" award for the whole of Burgundy. This award recognizes the organic quality of the estate and its biotop. A label that is important to Château des Bachelards, as it marks its ongoing commitment to respecting its terroir and the ecosystems planted in its vineyards.
