Anecdotes about the domain

Being a winegrower is above all a profession of passion, a state of mind and a constant questioning in order to extract the best from each harvest. With the climate that gives us many surprises and challenges every year.

The domain's short story

When you grow up in the Beaujolais, it's hard to leave. We were both trained in the hard work of the vineyard. Our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents lived and worked in this little corner of Beaujolais. We produce great wines of terroir and great finesse from a single grape variety, the Gamay. The terroir has a lot to do with it: the Moulin-à-vent is planted on granite-dominated slopes with low yields. The Chénas, on a clay soil, gives a lighter wine with red fruit aromas. We vinify the great classics, from a semi-carbonic maceration called "vinification beaujolaise" which gives our wines a freshness carried by the terroir.

The winemaker's pride

Established in the heart of the Beaujolais Crus since 1993, Domaine des Michelons is a family estate covering 10 hectares in the Moulin-à-vent and Chénas appellations. Patrick Boulay runs this small, south-facing estate on the slopes of the Chénas appellation with his wife Véronique, daughter of a Juliénas winemaker. Since 2019, the estate has held HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification, which recognizes its agroecological approach and the efforts made to move towards more responsible production in harmony with nature.
