The winery is physically located in the commune of Herrlisheim Vignoble in Alsace but most of our vines are in the neighbouring commune of Obermorschwihr. We are located about 5km south of Colmar, the capital of Alsace wines and not far from Eguisheim. We produce the 7 main grape varieties of Alsace. We are fortunate to be present for the major part of our farm on a hilltop above the village which is a place called the "Bildstoecklé" with a beautiful south-western exposure. The soil is clay-limestone marl made of sedimentary remains. We have mechanized most of our vineyards, which produces very expressive wines.
Over time I have learned to immerse myself in the expression and spirit of our terroir to bring out the best in it each year and to perpetuate wines and a terroir that I have fallen in love with and which are recognised through various medals and awards. To preserve the richness of the soil and a vineyard of about 7.5 hectares, belonging to the family business for 3 generations, we work in reasoned fight to avoid any overload of non-organic input. We even practice sexual confusion to avoid the use of pesticides. Our vines are planted with natural grass and for the most part planted in alternation in order to take advantage of the best exposure until the harvest. We take care of each grape variety as if it were a Grand Cru appellation with the same treatments as organic winegrowers without claiming it.Producer harvesting, we mature our wines ourselves in our cellars which are therefore carried on the fruit as if every drop of wine was a grape crunched in the mouth. As starters, we make rather dry wines. For the other vintages, they are worked more round and generous thanks to the vines planted on a clayey-marly limestone soil and a place called "Bildstoecklé" which both bring all their specificity. This allows us to offer you a wide range of gastronomic choices but also more round or other more subtle so that you can delight your taste buds. For lovers of wines with slightly more tannic or woody notes, some of our wines are even matured in wooden barrels in the famous Hospices de Strasbourg cellar, home to the oldest wine in the world dating from 1472.
We are committed to our vineyard, which is why we take the greatest care of it for us, it is the guiding principle of our philosophy and our way of working. This has enabled us to be elected Winemaker of the Year in 2017 and to be named 8 times in a row in the famous Guide Hachette des Vins, which leads us to think over the years that it is not just luck but the result of hard work. A vinification masterfully mastered by Sylvain Hertzog, my father-in-law, who brings all his experience acquired over the years.
