Straddling 2 communes in the Haut-Rhin in Alsace. The cellar is physically located in the commune of Herrlisheim Vignoble but most of our vines are in the neighbouring commune of Obermorschwihr. We are about 5km south of Colmar, the capital of Alsace wines and not far from Eguisheim. We produce the 7 main grape varieties of Alsace. We are fortunate to be present for the most part on a place called the "Bildstoecklé", a hillock located above the village which has a beautiful south-west exposure. The soil is clay and limestone made of sedimentary remains. This produces very expressive wines. We have mechanized most of our vines.
Over time I have learned to immerse myself in the expression and spirit of our terroir to bring out the best each year and to perpetuate wines and a terroir that I have fallen in love with and which are recognized through various medals and awards. Let me introduce you to our estate: Voted "Winemaker of the Year 2017" in the Alsace region by the Guide Hachette des Vins, geographically located 5Km from Colmar south of Eguisheim. In order to preserve the richness of the soil and of a vineyard of about 7,5Ha, belonging to the family exploitation for 3 generations now, we work in reasoned fight to avoid any overload of non organic contribution. We even use sexual confusion to avoid any use of pesticides. Our vines are naturally grassed and for the most part planted in alternating rows to take advantage of the best exposure until the harvest. We take care of each grape variety as if it were a Grand Cru appellation with the same treatments as organic winegrowers without claiming it. As a producer and harvester, we raise our own wines in the cellar, which are therefore focused on the fruit, as if each drop of wine were a grape crushed in the mouth. For the entry-level wines, we make rather dry wines. For the other vintages, they are worked more round and generous thanks to the vines planted on a clay and limestone soil and a place called "Bildstoecklé" which, together, bring their specificities. This allows us to offer you a wide range of gastronomic choices but also more rounded or more subtle ones so that you can delight your taste buds. For those who like slightly more tannic or woody wines, some of our wines are even matured in wooden barrels in the famous cellar of the Hospices de Strasbourg, which houses the oldest wine in the world dating back to 1472.
We are attached to our vineyard, which is why we take the greatest care of it. This is the guideline of our philosophy and our vision of work. This has allowed us to be elected winemaker of the year in 2017 and to be named 8 times consecutively in the famous Guide Hachette des Vins, which leads us to believe over the years that it is the fruit of a passionate work. A vinification mastered with a master's hand by Sylvain Hertzog, my father-in-law, who brings me all his experience acquired over the years.
