Anecdotes about the domain
The winegrower must know how to decipher his terroir, adapt to it and accompany his vines until the harvest so that they can produce the best in the cellar: wines of pleasure, with a strong character, without excessive extraction and work in the cellar, in order to keep the fruit, the balance, the finesse and the elegance, the mark of the vintage. To be a winegrower is to offer and enjoy great moments of conviviality and exchange. And what a pride to present your wines...
The domain's short story
The history of the estate began with the purchase of old vines on magnificent tenements in the villages of Maury, Tautavel and Saint Paul de Fenouillet: both close to Perpignan and yet already a little at the end of the world. This place offers us breathtaking landscapes, this vineyard abounds in a real palette of micro-terroirs with strong identity, very contrasted: varied exposures, acid and limestone soils, low to medium depth of soil, old to very old vines, multiple and adapted grape varieties, optimal maturity, hillside. These vines are full of history, as many of them are more than fifty years old, and deserve a lot of attention, careful monitoring, and essentially manual interventions on steep slopes. But they offer the grapes that naturally and without artifice will give the cellar wines of character. After 4 vintages, the domain continues its construction with the project of building a new winery in Maury in 2017...
The winemaker's pride
In the middle of the Catalan country and a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast lies the young domaine La Toupie. Created in 2012, this 10-hectare estate on the edge of the village of Maury produces wines in the Côtes du Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages and Maury appellations. It is in these unique landscapes, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, that Jérôme Collas decided to take the plunge and become a winemaker. After several experiences in the wine industry, it is with the domain la Toupie that Jérôme works hard to find the right balance for these wines. It is this search for balance that inspired him to give the name "La Toupie" to this domain.
