How to summarize Domaine Montirius? Or rather, where to start? No less than 58 hectares on 38 plots of land in 6 grape varieties on 5 terroirs make up the palette of our winegrower artists, all in biodynamic way! They are located in the Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Côtes du Rhône appellations. The old vines have been cared for on average for more than 60 years, and for almost 20 years in biodynamics. The wines produced by the Saurel family are sincere, of great purity.
The estate has always kept inputs to a minimum. The whole family and their ancestors have been in contact with the vines for generations and generations, and in 1947 they were among the founders of the Vacqueyras cooperative cellars, until today they have their own private cellar. 1980, no more chemical fertilizers were used, in 1996 the estate went completely biodynamic, the vinification and wine were certified organic. Underneath these broad outlines, summarized, are an ambition and enduring values embedded in each of the family members. The passion and work of each individual, the meticulousness of each moment shape the terroir and the vine. All this brings wine to the mouth!
Running our vineyard using biodynamic methods made sense when we started to take care of ourselves and eat natural products and observed the beneficial effects that this could have. In this way, we protect nature, the people who work in the vineyard and the consumers of our products. This is also why all the wines produced on the Montirius estate are gluten-free: to allow anyone to enjoy our wines!
