An authentic and true place.... Domaine de l'Enclos de la Croix is located in the Languedoc, in the heart of the small Camargue, between the Etang de l'Or and the Cévennes. A place, where, at the rhythm of the seasons, they shape the vine to produce wines that, they hope, will flatter your senses. A place where every morning they walk towards a gentle viticulture.
Indeed since 2009 the estate has been operating in organic viticulture. The farm has a personal background that reflects the history of the region. Over 25 hectares in one piece, a stone wall completely surrounds the estate and closes on a benevolent cross. It faces the mistral, tramontane and maritime entrances. They produce organic wine on a soil of calcareous alluvium that is favourable to the development of the vine. Concerned about the environment, biodiversity, permaculture, agro-forestry, horse ploughing and sheep in the vineyards are their daily lives.
Domaine Enclos de la Croix was created in 1814. About 40 years ago, they decided to change grape varieties to replace Carignan and Aramon with Cabernet, Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Manseng. Eight generations have succeeded one another to exploit the 25 hectares of the estate, the vinification of this production and its marketing.
Today, 200 years after its creation, they are still the artisans of this wonderful heritage, which has been modernized over the years. As the owner of the estate, Mr. Frézouls, would say:"We are borrowing this land from our children, it is precious, let us protect it". This is why they have turned to a gentle cultivation of the soil: no chemical fertilizers, no pesticides, organic vinification and the production of sulphite-free vintages. Everything is in place to preserve biodiversity.
They have chosen the names of their wines according to the typicity of each of the wines. Their vineyard is entirely organic (yield restrictions, high density, choice of quality grape varieties). During the winter period, a herd of sheep, a real organic mower, grazes the grass.
Everything is designed to bring you the best of the typical Languedoc wines. They also have a restaurant in Paris as well as a cottage and guest rooms on the estate, everything is done to please you and integrate you closely or remotely into the team (participation in the grape harvest, bottling, horse riding through the vineyards etc.)
