The domain's short story
Coume" means "circus" in Occitan, and also represents the locality and the estate's geographical location. "Lumet" means light, to symbolize Luc's view of the Aude valley and the Pyrenees! The vineyard's management is highly integrated, with a focus on working the soil and listening to nature, and is Terra Vitis certified. The estate's geographical location enables the vines to benefit from several different climates. This allows Luc to work with the grape varieties and aromatic palette he wishes to develop. The Mediterranean climate offers temperate temperatures and the sunshine needed for optimal ripening of the traditional local grape varieties (Syrah, Grenache, Merlot). The oceanic climate is cooler. This gives the wines a nice acidity and is beneficial to Chardonnay, Chenin and Mauzac, the three grape varieties that make up the estate's Crémant. The Maset de Lumet wines are aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks, at low temperature, to preserve all their aromas, freshness and acidity. The Coume-Lumet, on the other hand, must spend 9 months in barrel. The Crémant follows the traditional Champagne method. We wanted it to be brut and aromatic. It is kept on laths for 18 months before disgorging. The story of the creation of this domaine is based on a Rencontre! Luc, a computer engineer and applied mathematician at the time, and Isabelle, a psychology graduate and full-time mother of their three children Noé, Milo and Iris, went on vacation to Languedoc-Roussillon in 2000 and fell in love with the region and its wines... Then, as the children grew up, the "mid-life crisis" hit and the intuition that it was the right time to embark on the adventure... thus was born La Coume-Lumet! The search for an estate lasted 4 years, during which time Luc and Isabelle were able to refine their project and, above all, learn the realities of the winegrowing profession, supported by Matthieu, Luc's oenologist brother-in-law. In June 2012, Isabelle spotted an advertisement for a small estate in the Limoux region, with a lovely, just-renovated house in a magnificent setting with woods and a few vines all around. It was a real "encounter" with the charm, tranquility and energy of a wine estate. Let's go for the "crazy adventure"!
