Anecdotes about the domain
Wine is about sharing, with good friends and good food. Forget about luxury and labels, let's talk about terroir, farmers and pleasure. Above all, is it good? This is the first question asked in all our blind tastings. Wine is also about travelling, meeting new people and talking to fellow winemakers! Our credo is the terroir. We try to express it with Chenin which is a chameleon grape variety. Depending on the soil, the exposure, it will be, and it will express itself in different ways. That's how we can offer a range of 5 Chenins all different from each other. Oh and, to do that, organic is obligatory, the terroir is based on the respect of the life of the soils, it will be said!
The domain's short story
Created in 2008, the Domaine Pithon-Paillé with a surface of 9 hectares mainly planted in Chenin on the great terroirs of Anjou, Savennières, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume preserve these parcels by techniques respectful of the life of the soil and its functioning as a complex agroecosystem. The soils of this small eastern corner of the Armorican Massif are very varied due to the mother rock (schists, spilites, carboniferous poudingues) and the Chenin is an excellent "translator" of this geological richness. Our wine making is based on the intrinsic quality of the fruit and the development of our terroirs. Jo, a winemaker for several decades, is nearing the end of his career, after having created a great estate with all his love and passion. By meeting Ivan Massonnat, he is leaving the reins with the same passion in a very organic and human spirit. "We want to work with the greatest respect for the land and the people around us," says Ivan.
The winemaker's pride
Pithon-Paillé is our jewel of the Loire, created by Jo & Isabelle Pithon and Joseph & Wendy Paillé. The new generation, represented by Jules and Tania Pithon, took over in 2008. On the estate, they exploit and vinify about ten hectares, in organic culture with a natural approach in the cellar. Their perfect mastery of the Chenin grape has earned them several recommendations from the RVF, Robert Parker and Bettane & Desseauve!
