Anecdotes about the domain
It was in 2005 that he had the idea of creating "Les Mains Sales", rare vintages of 100% Petit Verdot and 100% Malbec. These wines of a rare elegance are today the figureheads of Vignobles Bouillac.
The domain's short story
Jean-Pierre Bouillac, passionate and seduced by the diversity of grape varieties since childhood, decided at the age of 14 to become a nurseryman like his father and grandfather were. After three generations working for the most prestigious vineyards in Bordeaux, Jean-Pierre decided to take on a new challenge: to run his own vineyard. In 1984, he began planting his first plot of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon on 5 hectares; the Château du Vieux Puit was born. This double activity favored the birth of a kind of superhero of the viticulture: the Pépigneron! This insatiable lover of the soils and the wine did not cease developing the vineyard with the liking of the occasions on the most beautiful parcels of the appellation to reach a surface of 80 hectares. The last challenge of the Pépigneron: to save the forgotten grape varieties of Bordeaux!
The winemaker's pride
Vignobles Bouillac is a family property located in the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, on the right bank of the Garonne River, after Saint-Emilion and just across the river from other prestigious regions such as Saint-Julien and the Médoc. The 80 hectare estate benefits from a great diversity of terroirs, which allows as much expression and complexity in each of the wines we produce: clay and clay-limestone for the merlot, sandy-gravelly for the cabernet sauvignon, clay-gravelly for the petit verdot, malbec and cabernet franc. We are independent winegrowers but also wine nurserymen for more than 50 years and count among our customers some Great Classified Growths of the Medoc (Palmer, Rauzan-Segla, Giscours, Cantemerle, Léoville-Poyferré) as well as of Saint-Emilion (Château Canon). The demands of this technical profession give us expertise in matching the grape variety/soil pairing and enhancing the value of each terroir.
