In the heart of Provence but nevertheless in the Rhône Valley vineyard, a cross between the Alps and the Mediterranean, on a site classified as a « Biosphere Reserve » by UNESCO in 1990. The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) of the Ventoux, formerly Côtes-du-Ventoux, enjoys an exceptional climate thanks to the Mediterranean heat and the natural protection against the wind of the surrounding mountains, particularly the famous Mont Ventoux, but also the Monts du Vaucluse and the Dentelles de Montmirail.
...but also the Monts du Vaucluse or the Dentelles de Montmirail. The Ventoux region, located in the southern south, is known for its waters, its ski resorts, its gastronomic recipes but also for all the wines they produce in their beautiful vineyards. White wines are rare, mainly red wines and some rosé wines that are produced on the 6700 hectares of the appellation. These are made from several grape varieties, mainly black Grenache and Syrah for the reds and rosés, Clairette, Bourboulenc and white Grenache for the few white wines. The reds are characterized by the richness of their aromas and their suppleness, their ageing potential is from 5 to 20 years. Their colour is brilliant ruby in colour; red fruits and spices characterise these wines. For the few whites, they are characterized by fruity and floral aromas. Grenache noir and Syrah are mostly used to make wines that are supple enough for the majority but whose diversity makes it possible to find more powerful wines! The reputation of Ventoux wines is growing, here you can find three winegrowers from three different estates: Domaine de Pieblanc, Domaine des Peyre and Château Pesquié who have been evaluated with good marks by our large community, check their pages to know their opinions on these articles. The other way is also to visit them, on request outside the summer period, where you will have the opportunity to see their superb estates and to exchange with these winegrowers. The terroirs in the Ventoux work while preserving their historical and cultural heritage but also with respect for their lands, and without modifying them, hence the fact that UNESCO (mentioned above) has obtained their classification. The Ventoux Protected Designation of Origin, which extends over the communes at the foot of Mont Ventoux, has replaced the former Côtes-du-Ventoux appellation. The vinification, traditionally carried out in vats, can be done in mono-varietal, but is more generally done in blending, which allows to have a balanced product due to the different climatic conditions present in the region (mistral, very hot summers...).
