Tout savoir sur Gigondas
It is at the expense of olive oil that we enjoy the best of the Rhône Valley! Gigondas wines come from vines that have colonized ancient olive groves at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Ideal for viticulture thanks to the Mediterranean climate and the Mistral wind, expect wines with great aging potential and pronounced tannins! Like the surrounding vineyards, the plots of the southern Côtes-du-Rhône include several grape varieties: Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Cinsault can be added for a touch of finesse. The soil is primarily clay. The area covers approximately 1,200 hectares. Red and rosé wines are produced here, and the red wines are very dark in their youth, developing orangey highlights with age, which enhance the wine's beauty. The grapes, harvested two weeks later than those of other appellations in the region to compensate for the cooler temperatures in the shade of the Dentelles mountains, have aromas of spice and black olives. The red wines showcase red fruit aromas, with hints of licorice and candied fruit. The rosé wine evokes an aromatic fragrance of cooked fruit and toasted almonds. On the palate, the red is full-bodied and structured, and a few years of aging are necessary to fully appreciate its potential.
