Sabots d'Hélène

La Mauvaise Réputation 2023

Corbières-Boutenac | Rouge | 2023

This wine, made entirely from Carignan grapes, is the result of meticulous care, from winter pruning of the vines to the hand-harvest. Fermented with native yeasts, this wine then undergoes a 27-day maceration in concrete tanks, accompanied by regular punching down and pumping over. Aging in 4-year-old barrels for 10 months, without filtration, allows the grape’s character to fully shine through. Hand-bottling is a testament to exceptional artisanal care.

Our Review of the Cuvée

With its captivating purple color, this wine reveals complex aromas of black fruits, garrigue, and menthol on the nose, following an initial animal note. On the palate, it reveals a round, velvety texture, supported by an invigorating aromatic freshness. The lively finish bursts with flavors, featuring hints of blackcurrant and menthol, offering an irresistibly indulgent finish. To fully appreciate its complexity, let it breathe for an hour in a decanter and pair it with rich, spicy dishes.

Sabots d'Hélène

Languedoc | France

In the wild reaches of the Corbières, Les Sabots d'Hélène crafts cuvées where the ruggedness of the landscape blends with a quest for purity. The parcels, cultivated with minimal inputs, yield free-run juices that are sometimes slightly raw, yet consistently driven by forthright fruit and a supple texture. Carignan and Grenache express themselves here with a juicy, almost tactile profile, exhibiting unexpected freshness for this high-altitude area. Minimal aging allows for a direct, unadorned aromatic expression. These are sincere, vibrant wines that tell the story of an uncompromising territory.
