Saumur Berrie Cœur pour Cœur 2023

Saumur | Blanc | 2023

Made from 100% Chenin, grown on the tuffeau hillsides of Berrie, south of Saumur. Barrel aging adds depth and a lovely fullness to the wine, without masking the Chenin’s natural freshness. On the palate, the wine stands out for its balance of roundness, tension, and minerality, with a salty finish that pleasantly lingers.

Our Review of the Cuvée

Pale yellow color with golden highlights. The nose is expressive, marked by notes of white-fleshed fruits and nuts, with a subtle hint of oak. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and creamy. The wine is round and well-structured, supported by a lovely freshness that provides balance. The finish lingers with a pleasant mineral and salty sensation.

A Chenin that is both generous and precise, with lovely depth and true gastronomic appeal.

Berrye Fortress

Berrye Fortress

Loire | France

Nestled in Berrie, at the border of Anjou, Poitou, and Touraine, the Fortress of Berrye is an extraordinary place where heritage and winemaking are intimately intertwined. Listed in its entirety as a Historic Monument, this medieval fortress has overlooked its vineyards since the 12th century. Built on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by dry moats, it also houses an extensive network of underground tunnels, cellars, and cave dwellings.

Vines have been cultivated in Berrie for over 800 years. Today, the Forteresse de Berrye vineyard spans 13 hectares around the medieval structure. The estate primarily cultivates three iconic Loire grape varieties: Chenin, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are crafted with respect for this heritage and a particularly unique terroir.
