Family estate in the middle valley of the Hérault on the road to Saint Guilhem le Désert. Protected as a Historic Monument, the Domaine de RIEUSSEC has belonged to the same family for more than five centuries, the vines of the Domaine mentioned in an act dating back to 853, have been planted since the Roman occupation and since the 15th century, the vines of Rieussec belong to people of dress and law who have made Rieussec a place of walk and holiday in a park that they have landscaped. You can come and visit the orangery, the English garden, the French garden, the boxwood alley near a Romanesque chapel, the genealogy and the land are all part of the same story, so the current owner, also a practising lawyer, decided in 2003 to revive the old winemaking cellar and open to the public the gardens also protected as historical monuments.

Our story

Families working in the legal profession have always invested in land and very often in wine-growing properties, so wine and law have often been traditionally associated, and the RIEUSSEC estate is no exception in that it has always belonged, mainly to magistrates or lawyers. For the first time in the 21st century, the estate is in direct operation by the current owner, who, also a lawyer, ensures the continuity of wine and law. With this particularity that the domain of RIEUSSEC, has been transmitted in direct line from mother to daughter and for the last five generations has always belonged to a woman.

Other little stories

The vineyard has been replanted and we have selected the plots that have a terroir of gravel and rolled pebbles that heat up in the sun and give the wine all its finesse. We have preserved the oldest grape varieties, Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault, those that give wines a traditional Languedoc character; and we have recently replanted for their elegant quality: Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Roussanne, Marsane, Viognier, Chenin. All our wines are vinified in stainless steel vats followed by maturation in French oak barrels for 14 months, with numerous punching down to extract the fruit aromas and a few pumping over to restore the tannic structure that gives body to our wines and allows them to age for a long time.We use gentle presses, fermentations are natural using indigenous yeasts and without the addition of chemical yeasts that we voluntarily exclude to let the terroir express itself, we prefer the use of fewer oenological products possible in the vat, just like in the vineyard, we have a "small" operating structure, which gives you the assurance that the wines are worked with the care (and passion) that suits the proximity.
