Located at the top of the hillsides that dominate the right bank of the Garonne, the Château Peneau estate is a family wine-growing estate of nearly 30 hectares. In the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards and the Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, the property extends over gravelly and clay-limestone soils, from which balanced, charming and authentic wines are produced. The vines extend to the top of the first slopes along the Garonne, with on one side, the old vines, harvested by hand, and caressed by the morning fog of the river: an ideal terroir for the sweet. And on the other side, around the Château Haute-Sage, the youngest Merlot and Sauvignon whites and greys, planted on rich soils that have long remained untouched. In the heart of the Peneau vineyard, Château Haute-Sage is built on a hillside overlooking the Garonne whose foundations date back to the 16th century.

Our story

At the head of the estate since 1997, my mother-in-law, Dany, daughter of winegrowers for several generations, manages the vineyard with a master hand, with incredible dynamism and fishing. Dany, he's a "pile" and a moral of steel. When it bought the property in 1997, many investments were to be expected and the vines were in poor condition. His priority: to restore the vine to its former glory, to invest in the quality of the grapes above all, and even to expand from 13 to 30 hectares. Michel, her husband, an oenologist by training and above all a distiller, has been with her since the beginning. Today, it is my turn to graft myself into the history of the property: I have been accompanying, supporting my mother-in-law for more than 3 years now and gradually taking over the torch. And it is an explosive duo, mother-in-law/daughter-in-law that works: two generations with different experiences but the same passion, a willingness to merge our skills and a common commitment to make this family property live and develop. So I came into the world of wine for love... first of all for the man who became my husband and the father of my children... then for the love of the wine that has grown over the years. Graduated from an ESC and after 7 years of experience in the audiovisual industry, I joined Dany at the property while validating two diplomas at the Faculty of Oenology (DUIO and DUAD) to perfect my knowledge.

Other little stories

Being a winegrower is above all a story of family and sharing. It means knowing how to take advantage of the best of the vine, its grapes while respecting the soil, biodiversity and its environment. It also means knowing how to make a wine according to the terroir offered, transmitting our values and sharing our passion with our customers. The best wine is not necessarily the most expensive but the one we share.

Here, wine and the vineyard are a story of women! The men of the family are distillers: they recycle and valorize the by-products of the vine. It is the women who manage the vines and the wine. And the history of the estate has been perpetuated for generations. Haute-Sage, a building listed as a historical monument, overlooks the vineyard and has always been ruled and valued by women. Today, Dany is the 10th Lady of Haute-Sage... and her two little daughters, Eva and Alice, probably have a destiny to pursue in this place.
