The Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation is located on the right bank of the Gironde, Garonne and Dordogne rivers. This is the appellation common to all coastal vineyards (except Côtes-de-Bourg). Merlot is the main grape variety of these wines, but it can also be associated with other Bordeaux grape varieties.
The appellation a was created in 2009 by replacing the former appellations Côtes-de-Castillon, Premières-Côtes-de-Blaye and Bordeaux-Côtes-de-Francs.
