Clos Moleton 2021

Saumur-Champigny | Rouge | 2021

Made from 40-year-old Cabernet Franc vines grown organically on the distinctive terroirs of St.-Cyr-en-Bourg, this wine is the result of meticulous winemaking. The grapes are 100% destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, then aged for 18 to 24 months in oak barrels, half of which are new. This meticulous process enhances the expression of the grape variety and imparts a beautiful structure. The final blending takes place in stainless steel tanks, ensuring a harmonious profile.

Our Review of the Cuvée

From the very first whiff, intense aromas of dark fruits, complemented by subtle spicy notes, unfold elegantly. On the palate, the wine reveals a silky texture with a well-defined structure, reflecting its aging in oak barrels. The tannins are both present and well-integrated, offering depth that gives way to a refined finish. The minerality of the terroir—composed of heavy clay and sandy-loam soil—comes through fully, adding a complex and lingering dimension to the tasting experience. A wine to be savored with care.

Loire | France

In Brézé and Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, Arnaud Lambert cultivates limestone terroirs among the most emblematic of the Saumur region. This diversity of soils allows for the exploration of contrasting expressions of Chenin and Cabernet Franc, with particular attention paid to the purity of the profiles and the precision of the balances.

Maturity is rigorously pursued to preserve the fruit's vibrancy and a clean structure. White wines are characterized by a pronounced tension and a precise mineral expression, while reds favor gentle extractions, yielding fine textures and controlled tannins. Aging processes are tailored to each cuvée and vintage, always designed to complement the wine without dictating its style.

The estate's overall work offers a clear and refined interpretation of these Loire terroirs, with cuvées crafted with accuracy, precision, and the ability to faithfully convey their origin.
