Château Du Cèdre

Juvéniles 2023

Cahors | Rouge | 2023

This "Juvéniles" Cahors from Château du Cèdre is made primarily from Malbec, blended with Merlot and Tannat, grown on clay-limestone plots on the left bank of the Lot River. The grapes are destemmed, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and then aged in tanks to preserve the fruit. The style is intended to be balanced and approachable: round texture, supple tannins, and a beautiful expression of the terroir without excessive oak.

Our Review of the Cuvée

The nose opens with a generous bouquet of ripe plum, wild blackberry, and peppery notes, underpinned by a hint of graphite. On the palate, the attack is clean, with a ripe, velvety texture supported by fine, well-integrated tannins. Notes of blackcurrant and black cherry emerge, enhanced by a mineral edge that adds vibrancy to the tasting experience. The finish, pleasantly long, brings back soft spices and a slight tannic bite, offering a harmonious balance between power and elegance.

In Cahors, the Malbec from Cèdre achieves a sculpted amplitude, never brutal. The Verhaeghe brothers work with millimeter precision: controlled ripeness, integrated oak, and a firm yet digestible structure. The wine develops in depth without losing sight of balance.
