Located in Saint-Laurent-Médoc on the road to Saint-Julien, in the AOC Haut-Médoc, the vineyard has an area of a little over 28 hectares spread over two villages. The surface area of the vineyards is equally divided between Saint-Laurent-Médoc and Saint-Sauveur. Our vineyard of Saint Laurent, is largely exposed to the south and very close to great classified growths.the typology of the ground is different between Saint-Sauveur and Saint laurent to allow the wines to obtain all its richness and its complexity. The soil type is different between Saint-Sauveur and Saint Laurent to allow the wines to obtain all their richness and complexity. In particular, we find in Saint-Sauveur a sandy and gravelly soil with red clay in depth which is perfect for the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety. In Barateau, we find a clay-limestone soil with a high concentration of limestone in depth which is conducive to the well-being of Merlot. The pruning of the vine is carried out by our team in accordance with the values of the Médoc in Bordeaux pruning from January to March. The distribution of grape varieties is 45% for Merlot, 49% for Cabernet-Sauvignon and 6% for Petit Verdot.the wines are produced according to the respect of the tradition and raised in barrels during 12 to 18 months to give all its charm and its elegance to the opening allowing to spend a good moment for sure.

Our story

The vineyard of Barateau already existed in the 18th century. The present bourgeois house was built around 1820. Canon Barateau, parish priest of St-Laurent, was asked to come and lay the first stone. As it was out of the question for a priest to refuse to bless the fruit of the vine and the work of men, the good priest complied and thus gave his name to this wine. Although placed under the protection of God, Château Barateau has known various vicissitudes... since 1952 there were only 25 ares of vines and apple trees left. The estate belonged to several families before being bought in the middle of the year 2000 by the current owner, Mr Li. This estate, on a human scale, aims to produce quality wines in the purest tradition and with respect for the environment.
